The Hawaii Fire Department has ended its search for 66-year-old Steven Wyoff, whose unmanned kayak was found Thursday drifting in waters off Kawaihae Harbor in South Kohala.

The search ended about 4 p.m., according to the department. Wycoff was last seen about 10 a.m. Thursday fishing from his green kayak. The vessel was found unmanned about an hour later drifting in waters 50 yards offshore and 300 yards north of Kawaihae Harbor.

The U.S. Coast Guard and state Department of Land and Natural Resources also assisted in the search effort, which spanned nearly three days and covered 228 square miles.
